CTW Events at EN Indy Expo 2025: Connecting People and Purpose in an AI-Driven Era

CTW Events recently attended the Exhibition News Indy Expo 2025 on 17 October in London, where our Head of Marketing, Austin Eaton, joined independent event organisers for a day of insight and inspiration. Hosted by Exhibition News (EN) at the Business Design Centre[1], this unique expo – now in its second year – is the only event dedicated to educating and connecting the independent exhibition organiser community[2]. From emerging marketing tactics to sustainability best practices, the conference’s focus aligned perfectly with CTW Events’ mission of creating events that matter.

Independent Organisers Unite at EN Indy Expo 2025

EN Indy Expo was designed specifically for boutique and independent exhibition teams, recognizing that their challenges in marketing, sales, finance, strategy, and community-building differ from those of larger event organisers[3]. The expo provided an open forum of professional development to discuss these issues and share best practices[4]. Content was spread across four themed theatres, each targeting key areas for independents:

  • The C-Suite: High-level strategy including M&A, attracting investment, growth plans, and financial management[5].
  • Revenue Hub: Tactics for new revenue streams, sponsorship, rebooking attendees, and launching shows in new markets[6].
  • AI & Data Hub: Latest tools in automation and data analytics for events, and how to integrate them across the event cycle[7].
  • Community Hub: Building year-round communities, engaging audiences and advocates, and designing impactful attendee programs[8].

This packed schedule ensured independent organisers left with actionable ideas to grow and thrive[9]. Austin Eaton made the most of the day by attending sessions in multiple tracks and networking with fellow organisers and suppliers.

Key Takeaway: Technology Trends vs. Human Connection

Over the course of the event, 600 hygiene kits were assembled and donated to Bahnhofsmission Frankfurt, a local NG

One of the notable discussions at the Expo centered on the rise of artificial intelligence in event marketing and operations. There was a lot of buzz around AI-driven tools and data, but as Duncan Reid (CEO of Reset Connect) wisely pointed out during a revenue-focused panel, “a lot of talk on AI is moving so quick that it’s outdated very quickly – the most important thing in events is the personal connection and meeting people.” In other words, even amid rapid tech advances, human connection remains the heart of events. This sentiment resonates strongly with recent industry observations that in an era of digital fatigue, companies are refocusing on trust, authenticity, and people over just tech[10]. After all, events are about bringing people together, and no algorithm can replace the magic of face-to-face interaction.

At CTW Events, we couldn’t agree more. Our people-first, purpose-driven approach to team-building is built on the power of personal connections. In an age of AI and virtual everything, we help teams reconnect through shared impact activities. Since our inception, CTW Events has facilitated the creation of over 7 million hygiene and comfort kits (for charities worldwide) and engaged more than 250,000 hours of volunteer participation by corporate teams[11]. These hands-on experiences not only deliver life-changing donations to communities, but also forge genuine camaraderie among participants – an invaluable return on relationships. It’s a testament to our belief that while technology can enhance events, people and purpose drive them.

Shining a Light on Sustainable Events and Social Impact

Another major theme at EN Indy Expo 2025 was sustainability in the events industry. During a Community Hub panel titled “Sustainability: Why Your Exhibitors Don’t Care,” experts tackled the misconception behind the provocative title. The panel – featuring host Simon Burton, Duncan Reid, Hannah Kilgariff (Event Director at CCR), and Simon Evans (Sustainability Director at PIE) – suggested that it’s not that exhibitors truly don’t care about sustainability, but rather that they are often time- and resource-constrained. Exhibitors primarily come to shows seeking leads and ROI, so sustainability initiatives must be communicated in terms of those business benefits to gain buy-in. The consensus was that everyone cares about doing the right thing, but event organisers need to make it easier and more compelling for exhibitors to participate in green practices.

Encouragingly, the panel shared evidence that sustainable event practices are gaining traction. For instance, some trade shows have achieved “60% less waste to landfill” after just a few years of focused efforts by requiring reusable booth materials and greener operations. It’s not rocket science – many solutions are relatively basic – but it does require planning and commitment upfront. Measuring impact was highlighted as key: when organisers and exhibitors track things like waste reduction or community impact, they can identify where to improve and celebrate progress. Panelists also noted that many exhibitors are already implementing great sustainability or CSR initiatives on their own; they just aren’t telling those stories well. By showcasing exhibitor success stories and providing a framework (e.g. guidelines or requirements for sustainable exhibiting), events can drive broader adoption of best practices. Importantly, with investors and customers increasingly prioritizing ESG, sustainable events make business sense – not just moral sense – for all involved.

For CTW Events, these insights affirmed that our model of integrating social impact into events is on the right track. We specialize in turning corporate social responsibility (CSR) into engaging event experiences. Whether it’s a hygiene kit build addressing health and well-being or a school supply pack benefiting quality education, our programs align with various UN Sustainable Development Goals while remaining fun and team-centric. We help Fortune 500 companies and growing businesses alike give back in a way that aligns with their sustainability and ESG goals, without sacrificing the primary event objectives. In fact, we often find that adding a purpose element enhances the success of an event – attendees feel more engaged and proud to be contributing to something meaningful, which reflects positively on the host organization. As evidence, some of the world’s largest companies have partnered with CTW Events to turn volunteering into powerful relationship-building opportunities. Just this year, a Fortune 100 company worked with us on a month-long campaign where 25,000 employees assembled 410,000 hygiene kits across 381 events worldwide[12] – a masterclass in how doing good can energize teams at scale. These kinds of outcomes show that sustainable, impact-focused events are not only possible, but can drive incredible participation and buzz.

CTW Events – Partnering with Purpose for Lasting Impact

CTW Events has always been about creating purpose-driven experiences that benefit both organizations and communities. Since 2012, we’ve distributed over 7.1 million kits to 1,000+ charity partners and counting[11]. Each one of those kits – whether filled with hygiene supplies, educational materials, or food items – represents a story of employees coming together to make a difference. This approach helps our clients strengthen their company culture and employee engagement, which ultimately supports talent retention and morale (key priorities for HR leaders). At the same time, those clients can publicly demonstrate their commitment to corporate citizenship and the social pillar of ESG, enhancing their reputation as purpose-driven brands. It’s a win-win that turns corporate events into opportunities for real-world impact.

We pride ourselves on being a plug-and-play solution for busy HR and event teams who want fresh, inclusive, and high-impact initiatives without the headache. Our team handles the logistics and coordination (so you don’t have to), and we act as an extension of your team to ensure the experience aligns with your values and goals[13]. From Fortune 500 powerhouses to innovative startups, CTW Events is trusted to deliver events that are fun, meaningful, and seamlessly executed. As one of our guiding principles, “you support everyone else – let us support you” in making your workplace a great place to work and your events something employees will rave about on LinkedIn and Instagram.

Looking Ahead: Continuing the Mission at Confex 2026 and Beyond

CTW Events isn’t just attending industry events – we’re helping lead the conversation on the future of purposeful events. After showcasing the power of purpose-driven team building at International Confex in London earlier this year[14], we are delighted to announce that we’ll be back at International Confex 2026 (25–26 February 2026, ExCeL London)[15]. In fact, our founder Shawn Seipler will be hosting a panel discussion at Confex 2026 to share insights on how organizations can integrate social impact into their event strategies. We can’t wait to once again connect with fellow event professionals and demonstrate firsthand how people-focused events in the UK, USA, and globally can deliver both business results and positive change.

Creating events that matter is more than a slogan for us – it’s the reason we exist. CTW Events will continue to champion initiatives that keep the event industry’s focus on community, sustainability, and human connection, even as technology transforms other aspects of our work. As the EN Indy Expo 2025 showed, our industry is filled with passionate, creative voices who believe in the power of events to do good. CTW Events is proud to be part of this movement, working alongside you to build a more sustainable and socially impactful future through events.
